18-year-old Alachua woman accused of leading police on chase
ALACHUA, Fla. (WGFL) —
An 18-year-old woman is in jail after authorities say she led them on a high-speed chase and tried to run away after a deputy trapped the vehicle in a ditch this weekend.
Brooke Howard of Alachua is charged with eluding police and resisting arrest.
Alachua County Sheriff's deputies say Howard and a juvenile were inside a stolen Toyota Tundra that was pulled over in Union County just before 10 p.m. Friday. Deputies say the Tundra drove off but was later found at a Publix in Alachua. Alachua police and deputies tried to stop the vehicle again when authorities say it led them on a chase. An Alachua County sheriff's deputy pulled behind the Tundra and used the PIT maneuver to direct the Tundra into a ditch on NW 441.
Deputies say Howard, the driver, ran into the woods but was caught shortly after and put in jail on a $12,500 bond.
Deputies say the juvenile in the truck was arrested for grand theft of a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center to face additional charges of grand theft and burglary in Union County.
The Alachua County Sheriff's Office released this video of the pursuit Monday:
