Abandoned baby's background still a mystery to Marion County Sheriff's deputies
OCALA, Fla. (WGFL) —
Marion County Sheriff's deputies are asking the public's help finding out more information about a baby abandoned at an I-75 rest area two days before Christmas.
The baby was found about 3:14 a.m. on Dec. 23rd at a southbound rest area in Marion County. The infant was taken to a local hospital and released into the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Florida has a "Safe Haven" law that allows parents to leave their unharmed babies who are a week or a less old with any hospital, EMS station or fire station in the state.
Deputies ask anyone with information in this case to call Detective Billy Burleson at (352) 368-3542 or Crime Stoppers at 368-STOP if you wish to remain anonymous.
