SUV strikes Gainesville High School sign, flips over multiple times
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Police say an SUV apparently flipped over several times after it plowed into the Gainesville High School sign Friday.
The crash happened about 6:45 p.m. Friday in front of the school. The sign was significantly damaged. It was removed as of Monday.
A Gainesville Police incident report says a 2001 Ford Expedition was southbound on NW 13th Street when it veered off the right side of the road. The 58-year-old driver told police that's the last thing he remembers.
Police say it appears the SUV crashed into the sign, rolled several times and landed on its passenger side.
The report says 58-year-old James R. Coleman of Gainesville was ticketed for careless driving. He was taken to University of Florida Shands Hospital with minor injuries.
