Police: Fifteen Florida Men Arrested Trying to Solicit Sex from Minors

Operation Resilient

Fifteen Florida men are facing felony charges, accused of trying to solicit sex from minors over the internet.

The Gainesville Police Department worked with six other law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and FDLE, to complete "Operation Resilient."

GPD says during the five day operation, multiple people communicated with who they believed were young teenagers online and through text messages. The fifteen men facing charges are those who traveled to meet the children for sex. As seen in the footage provided by GPD, the men were met by multiple officers, and arrested immediately.

GPD Ofc. Ben Tobias says, "The victims in these cases are children. And it's so very important with the technical age that we live in - some of our children don't even realize what they may be doing on the internet. And the way technology is shifting, it's making it easier and easier for these people to prey on our children."

Most men live in Alachua County, including three who were students at the University of Florida. The University has said that, "Because of the serious nature of the charges, these individuals have been trespassed from campus."

Tobias says this operation should serve as a good reminder to parents to monitor what their children are doing, and who they're talking to, online. Tobias says, "Whenever we have offenders that seek out people like this, it turns your stomach. It would turn anyone's stomach."
