Firefighters rescue dog during overnight house fire near Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Gainesville and Alachua County firefighters rescued a dog and put out a house fire in the Fairbanks area early Sunday.
Firefighters responded to 7610 NE 51 Terrace around 3 a.m. after a woman inside the home smelled smoke and found the fire in the back of her home. The woman evacuated the home with her 3-year-old daughter.
While firefighters were on the way, Alachua County Sheriff's deputies arrived and reported flames and smoke coming from the house. Firefighters entered the house and were searching for residents when they found the dog inside. Firefighters say they were able to quickly put out the fire that burned the back porch and spread into the attic, limiting any further damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
