Florida Sea Grant bringing awareness to plastic pollution
The Florida Sea Grant is working to bring attention to a very important issue, plastic pollution in the Florida waters.
The non-profit organization says one of the offenders are micro plastics, tiny particles that never break down into the environment.
Florida Sea Grant agent Maia McGuire said the amount of plastic in the oceans keeps increasing each year. "One of the reasons for that is we are generating more and more plastic waste, but we do have alternatives," said McGuire. And that's something that we tend not to think about because it's so commonplace to just by things in plastic and throw it away."
McGuire said she wants people to shop smarter and always recycle, which will help our waters stay less polluted.
