Former Gator Linebacker Facing Charges of Attempted Sexual Battery, False Imprisonment
Former Gator football player Daniel McMillan is facing criminal charges, including attempted sexual battery, and false imprisonment.
GPD Officer Ben Tobias says, "We got a call from the victim who had visited the suspect for a legitimate business purpose at his apartment. Once they got inside the apartment, he called her to his bedroom, and when she got into the bedroom, he closed the bedroom door behind her, and then blocked her path from leaving."
Police say McMillan then pulled down his pants, grabbed the victim, and tried to pull her on top of him.
Tobias says, "She was able to kick him in the groin and then flee the area, and then call police. She was obviously very upset when she was talking to law enforcement - almost to the point of being hysterical."
Many women around UF campus had the same reaction when hearing McMillan's charges. UF Sophomore Alexis Huggins says, "Our culture puts athletes on a pedestal, and I think that that's something that's really wrong in our society. And so holding our athletes to the same standards as we would hold other people is really important."
Leah Paxton, a freshman at UF agrees. "I know a lot of people look up to football players and put them on this pedestal, and you know he might think he's hot stuff around here, but it doesn't mean he can do whatever he wants."
UF says they are working to trespass the recent graduate from campus.
