Firefighters: Gainesville house fire started by child playing with lighter
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Gainesville Fire-Rescue says a fire Thursday afternoon was caused by a child playing with a lighter.
Firefighters responded to 1837 NE 16th Ave. around 3:30 p.m. They say the had the fire under control within five minutes of arriving as firefighters cleared the building. No one was injured.
Investigators determined it was caused by a child playing with a lighter. Fire officials say the child has been referred to the Juvenile Fire Setters Program. The Red Cross helped residents who were displaced by the fire.
