Gainesville man accused of stealing lawn mower from church
Gainesville, Fla. —
Police say a man is accused of stealing lawn equipment from Gainesville Baptist Church.
Gainesville police say Arthur Bernard Lee pried the locks of the church's shed door and a stole a lawn mower worth $6,000.
Police say Lee is also a suspect in nine other burglaries where lawn equipment was taken from church storage sheds.
Lee has 32 felony convictions which include burglary and grand theft.
Police say he may have seen the churches as easy targets.
"At this point we think that he may have been targeting churches because he knew that they were easily accessible and there may have been lawn equipment there," GPD spokesman Ben Tobias said.
Lee was charged with two counts of burglary and theft. He's being held on a $50,000 bond.
