Gainesville man wanted for choking pregnant woman accused of biting officer during arrest

Carlos Ford. Alachua County Jail.

A Gainesville man who was wanted for choking his pregnant girlfriend is in jail after officers say he fought and bit officers who tried to subdue him after a traffic stop early Friday morning.

Gainesville Police charged 29-year-old Carlos R. Ford with battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, being a habitual traffic offender and possession of a controlled substance. He was recently featured on CBS 4's Wanted Wednesdays after deputies say he choked and hit his pregnant girlfriend in early November.

Police say they arrested Ford early Friday morning after officers saw a car run a stop sign on SE 13th Street. Police say the car stopped and Ford ran. An officer tackled Ford but he thrashed his body and bit the officer on the forearm, pinning the officer on the ground until the officer stunned him with his Taser multiple times, police say.

Ford is being held on a combined bond of $612,500.
