Gainesville Police: 2 men arrested on gun, drug charges after chase, struggle
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Police arrested two men on gun, drug and resisting charges Tuesday night after a chase through a Gainesville apartment complex.
Gainesville police arrested 24-year-old Quavonte Nobles and 31-year-old Aundre Ryles. A report released Wednesday says this is what happened:
An officer approached Nobles and Ryles at Village Green Apartments and smelled marijuana. When backup officers arrived, Nobles and Ryles ran in separate directions. The department's helicopter, AIR-2, was already on a patrol flight and responded immediately. Officers say they caught Ryles first after a chase and struggle.
The helicopter tracked Nobles as he ran into an apartment and left the occupants outside while their 6-month-old child was inside. The occupants panicked and alerted officers. When the officers entered, police say Nobles broke through a second-story window and jumped. Multiple officers caught him and arrested him after a struggle.
Nobles is charged with burglary, criminal mischief, carrying a controlled firearm, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of a controlled substance.
Ryles is charged with resisting with violence, trafficking in Ecstasy, possession with intent to sell marijuana and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
