Gainesville Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman accused of shooting a man in the nose during an argument Tuesday, and then trying to hide the evidence.

Police charged Jakesha Janay Haynes of 15th Street with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

Officer Ben Tobias said the victim, a man in his 20s, showed up at the fire station at 8th Avenue and Waldo Road around 1:30 p.m. First responders took him to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Tobias said their investigation turned to Village Forest Green Apartments, which is where they recovered the gun.

Here's how the shooting happened, according to an incident report:

Witnesses told police the victim's cousin was arguing with Haynes, his girlfriend, when the victim asked her, "Why are you so mean and talk trash?"

The report says Haynes grabbed a gun from her bedroom and waved it in the victim's face. The victim told police Haynes was about two to three feet away when the gun fired, striking him in the nose.

Haynes told police the gun went off when the victim pushed it out of his face, the report says.

The report says Haynes dropped her boyfriend and the victim off at the fire station and then returned to her apartment. The report says Haynes cleaned with bleach to cover up the evidence inside the apartment, cleaned blood from the sidewalk and took a shower to clean the blood from her.
