High Springs couple charged with manslaughter in death of 18-day-old infant
HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WGFL) —
A High Springs couple has been arrested on manslaughter and child neglect charges after the death of their 18-day-old baby in 2016.
Deputies arrested Johnny Tyler Dees and Ashley Sheffield, both 24, on Nov. 15, the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday.
Deputies say emergency services responded to their home on NE 70th Avenue on Nov. 29, 2016 after they received a call about an infant in distress. The baby died on the way to the hospital.
Deputies say the almost year-long investigation determined Dees' and Sheffield's use of illegal drugs contributed to the neglect and death of their child.
Both are being held at the Gilchrist County Jail on $750,000 bond.
