Lake Weir High teacher accused of sexually assaulting student after photos appear online
OCALA, Fla. (WGFL) —
A Lake Weir High School teacher has been arrested after police say inappropriate photos of him and a student were posted on a social media app.
Marion County Sheriff's deputies charged 30-year-old Jason Tarlton with sexual assault by a custodian involving a victim between 12 and 18 years old. He's been released on $10,000 bond.
Deputies say they found out about the relationship after inappropriate, sexual photos of Tarlton and the 17-year-old, female student were posted on a social media application called "Afterschool."
A Marion County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officer found the photos. Deputies say one picture shows Tarlton and the victim standing in front of a mirror in a hotel bathroom partially clothed. The other photo is of Tarlton completely nude.
The victim told detectives she accidentally uploaded the pictures from her phone to the app. While she is no longer a student at the school, the victim told detectives she was Tarlton's student last year. She says she and the teacher were friends and then became sexually involved.
The victim told detectives Tarlton confessed his love for her saying if he ever got caught, she was "worth it."
While taking Tarlton into custody, detectives say they found a printed copy of the Florida statute detailing the punishment for sexual offenses. The document was printed Tuesday at 3:19 p.m. hours before his arrest.
