Levy County issues mandatory evacuations, updates list of shelters

Irma.

Levy County has issued a mandatory evacuation for all residents beginning at 4 p.m. Friday.

County officials say all residents should be evacuated by 5 p.m. Saturday. Residents are encouraged to leave the area, but the county has set up four shelters across the county for people who need them.

Mandatory evacuation does not mean people will be forcefully removed from their home, but it does mean emergency services may not be able to help you.

Emergency shelters:

Bronson Elementary School, 400 Ishie Ave., Bronson

Bronson Middle High School, 351 Ishie Ave., Bronson

Williston Middle High School, 350 Robert Philpot Way, Williston

Williston Elementary School, 801 South Main Street, Williston

Levy County Animal Services (Animal Control Facility), 12055 NE 69th Lane, Bronson

Residents are asked to bring pillows, blankets and bedding. Cots will not be made available.

None of the shelters in Levy County are pet-friendly. Residents with dogs or cats should bring a crate, pet food and a rabies certification. All dogs and cats will be sheltered at the Levy County Animal Services Facility in Bronson. Pets will not be accepted without vaccination certificate.

Anyone who needs transportation should call (352) 486-5427.
