Man accused of driving around Gainesville with teens, guns in car
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
A Gainesville man was arrested early this morning after Alachua County Sheriff's deputies say he was driving around with two teens and two guns inside his car.
Deputies charged 18-year-old Austin Gregory Dow with carrying a concealed weapon, cruelty to a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
An incident report says a deputy pulled over a Honda Civic with Alabama plates for failing to stop for a stop sign. Deputies say Dow was the driver.
Deputies say they searched the vehicle after smelling marijuana coming from the car. They found a loaded handgun under Dow's seat. They also found a backpack in the backseat with a scale that had marijuana residue on it, the report says.
The report says Dow initially said he didn't know the gun was under the seat but later told deputies he got the gun for protection because there were people who wanted to hurt him. He also reportedly admitted to having the scale because when he buys marijuana "he wants to make sure he buys the right amount."
Deputies say they found a second handgun under a passenger's seat.
Dow is being held at the Alachua County Jail on $150,000 bond.
