Man dies after car crashes on I-75 during heavy rainstorm

Several wrecks stalled I-75 traffic for several hours Tuesday.

A 32-year-old Palm Harbor man died Tuesday after a car he was riding in ran off I-75 and struck two trees.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Mark Mazurek was a passenger in a Ford Fusion that crashed about 12:21 p.m. Tuesday during a heavy rainstorm.

Troopers say the car was southbound near the 404 mile marker when it veered off the interstate, onto the grass shoulder and struck the trees.

Troopers say Mazurek died at UF Health Shands Hospital. The 61-year-old driver and a 27-year-old passenger were also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The crash was one of multiple wrecks on the interstate Tuesday after storms swept over the area. Northbound traffic was delayed for hours after a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a fuel leak.
