Woman's body found in shallow grave in Suwannee County; manhunt on for boyfriend
MICANOPY, Fla. (WGFL) —
Authorities are searching for a man in Alachua County after the body of his 32-year-old girlfriend was found in a shallow grave in Suwannee County.
Suwannee County Sheriff's deputies say the body of a woman matching the description of Delia Cruz was found buried in the 22000 block of 41st Road near Branford. The body will be taken to the medical examiner's office in Tallahassee for examination.
Authorities are searching for her boyfriend, 35-year-old Ricardo Fuentes, who also goes by the alias Ruben Gutierrez. Cruz was reported missing Monday. Investigators say Fuentes told them Delia walked away from her home Sunday night while wearing a white and pink shirt and blue jeans. Deputies were searching that area when, on Tuesday, they received a call from a relative of Fuentes' who said he confessed to killing and burying Cruz, and was at the convenience store in Micanopy off I-75.
Deputies say he was last seen around 1 p.m. near I-75 and County Road 234. They say he walked into the woods near Cafe Risque'. The sheriff's office has released an image of the man inside the convenience store. He was last seen wearing a dark shirt, jean shorts and a dark baseball hat.Authorities gave up the search for him briefly but returned after getting a tip he might now be in a white tank top.
Fuentes is a registered sex offender, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. They say he was convicted of sexual battery in 2004 and released from prison last December after serving 10 years for attempted murder.
