Organizations collecting school supplies for children who need them

Alachua County students return to school Monday, which means a list of school supplies -- and an empty wallet for some.

Luckily, several organizations are having school supply drives to make sure a child in need will be able to check everything off that list.

"As exciting as back to school is for some families, for others it's a little more costly," said Aldreka Everett, community relations manager for Partnership for Strong Families.

Partnership for Strong Families can fill up a child's backpack with a single $25 donation.

"This year we had one of our largest amounts of requests, which is 471 kids, so we filled all of those requests by asking for donors, community partners and organizations within the 13 counties we serve to provide school supplies for the kids," Everett said.

The partnership is still receiving donations at its office on NW 1st Place by the Oaks Mall.
