SC man caught on camera shooting officer sentenced to 35 years in prison

Shocking video released Thursday shows the exact moment in 2016 when a man shot an officer who was trying to question him about a burglary.

Eighteen months later, the man was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Prosecutor Duffie Stone released the video Thursday after a jury found 29-year-old Malcolm Antwan Orr guilty of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Authorities say Orr shot Estill Officer Quincy Smith four times on New Year's Day 2016. Smith was wearing a camera in his glasses, which he bought for himself on Amazon, Stone announced in a statement.

Smith, responding to a burglary call, repeatedly asks the man to stop, but the man kept walking. When Smith threatened to use his Taser on the man, the man pulled a gun and shot eight times, hitting Smith four times.

Smith's voice is heard in the recording as he lie outside his police car. He told the dispatcher, "Tell my family that I love them."

The jury deliberated for 45 minutes before finding Orr guilty. He received the maximum, 30-year-sentence for the shooting and five years for the weapons violation,
