See the first baby born in Alachua County this year
While most people were counting down the seconds this new year, an Alachua County family was counting the time between contractions.
“We were wondering if we were going to be there for New Years,” says mother Nolvia Smith.
The Smith family welcomed a new baby boy, Johnathan Smith was born at 1:13 a.m., making him the first baby born in Alachua county this year.
“We had no expectations of having a new year baby,” says father Robbie Smith.
After almost a week past Nolvia’s due date, the full-time mom joked about wanting her baby earlier for other reasons.
“We wanted him to be born before the new year, you know, for tax season…we’re parents,” says Nolvia Smith.
But after a whole day in labor, this new year baby weighing in at 7 lbs. and 15 oz., is ready to go home to his four other brothers.
“To see her and the pain that she went through, then to get this baby boy at the end of it—is just a miracle,” says Robbie Smith.
