Tampa men accused of stealing $6,000 in gift cards from Gainesville Walmart
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Gainesville Police have arrested three Tampa men accused of stealing more than $6,000 worth of gift cards from a local Walmart.
Terence Doston, Denzel Ingram and Clarence Jones are all charged with scheme to defraud and grand theft after police say they stole the cards from the Waldo Street Walmart Wednesday.
Police say the men might be connected to a group that's been stealing gift cards across the state. They say the same three men tried to rob the Butler Plaza Walmart earlier in the day. Officers say two of the men distracted the clerk while the third attempted to steal several cards and activate them. Officers say the cashier noticed the attempted theft and the men ran.
Police say the men had better luck at the Waldo Road store. The man grabbed and activated $6,000 worth of cards and fled in their vehicle.
Police say they pulled it over a short while later and arrested all three men. They say several gift cards were recovered from the car.
