GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Officers, first responders and linesmen all hit the streets of Tuesday morning as soon as the last of Hurricane Irma's harsh winds passed through Alachua County.
Authorities immediately began clearing trees and debris from roads; while linesmen started restoring power to more than 50, 000 homes in the county.
Both the Gainesville Police Department and Alachua County Sheriff's Office suspended normal operations around 1 a.m. once winds began to exceed 40 mph.
