Two men accused of robbing victim at Gainesville ATM
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) —
Two Gainesville men are in jail after police say they robbed a man of $40 at an ATM early Wednesday morning.
Gainesville Police arrested and charged 18-year-old Willie Reid and 20-year-old Travis Webb with armed robbery and fleeing from police.
An arrest report released Thursday says the victim withdrew $40 from the ATM at Campus USA Credit Union at 1200 SW 5th Ave. around midnight. Here's what happened next, according to the report:
Two men with a small handgun approached the victim when one demanded he "give me what you got." They then drove away in a black Altima with a temporary Florida tag.
An officer saw the Altima on SE 4th Street and attempted a traffic stop. Police say the car kept going and more patrol cars joined the pursuit. they say the driver drove north in the southbound lanes of Waldo Road before it turned down a dead end road and stopped. Police say Webb ran but was quickly caught, while Reid was arrested in the driver's seat.
Police say Webb admitted to the robbery and also admitted to driving the car from the bank before switching seats with Reid.
Reid, who is also accused of fleeing police in another incident, is being held at the Alachua County Jail on $95,000 bond.
Webb is being held on $65,000 bond.
