Two more people arrested in Bradford County grave robberies
STARKE, Fla. (WGFL) —
The Bradford County Sheriff's Office has arrested two more people in connection with a series of graveyard thefts dating back to November.
Deputies arrested and charged 37-year-old Ernest Steven Varnes of Starke with dealing in stolen property and disturbing a tomb or monument after they say he stole several items from local cemeteries and sold an item back to one of the victims. He's being held on $100,000 bond at the Bradford County Jail.
Deputies also arrested and charged 29-year-old Amanda Renee Thornton of Starke with evidence tampering after they say she hid several stolen items after TV stations covered the initial arrests earlier this week. Thornton's bond is $75,000.
Deputies say the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Dan Cassani at (904) 966-6161.
