Police: Two people hurt after man in clown mask opens fire near Ocala grocery store
OCALA, Fla. (WGFL) —
Ocala police say a 21-year-old man wearing a clown mask opened fire near a grocery store Wednesday morning, leading to a shootout that wounded both the shooter and a second man.
Police charged Kourtland Dukes with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Officers responded to the shooting at Long's Grocery at 803 NE 4th St. about 11 a.m. Witnesses told police a black male walked to car wash at the west side of the store and started shooting, striking a man named Servando Ferguson in the leg, police say.
Police say a customer returned fire and another chased after the shooter. Police say they stopped Dukes a little while later as he was walking west on NW 4th Street. They say he was limping and his clothing matched the description of the shooter. Police say they also found a gun on the path and the clown mask. They say Dukes was shot in his lower leg and in his left heel.
Police say Dukes has a prior felony conviction for possessing a firearm as a delinquent. He was treated for his injuries and taken to the Marion County Jail.
