SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV (WCHS/WVAH) —
South Charleston police arrested a woman after they said her daughter was standing outside of their home holding up a sign asking for help.
Schalinda Ball, is charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury after her 11-year-old daughter was standing outside of a house on Summers Avenue, along with her 1-year-old sister, holding a sign asking for help, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint said when officers arrived, the young girl said her mother had left her alone to watch her little sister for four hours. She told police she had been left alone before, but never for that long. The children were taken to the police station.
The complaint said police caught up with Ball while they were trying to track down the girl’s grandmother.
Ball claims she only left the children home for an hour.
She is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $10,500.
