Local couple celebrates 78th wedding anniversary, says secret is to never go to bed angry
CINCINNATI (WKRC) - This holiday season is extra special for a local family as a couple celebrates their 78th wedding anniversary.
When Fielding and Marion Lee tied the knot, “Gone With The Wind” was in theaters and a new car cost about $700.
It was December 22nd, 1939 when Marion and Fielding Lee said there “I do's”.
78 years later they are still going strong. Their secret?
They say there has been a lot of “give and take” over those 78 years and more importantly, they have shared their lives with each other.
Fielding admits to having flirty eyes when they first met. The first time he asked her out, he got turned down.
A picture of Marion and Fielding's first date was taken in 1939. They went to a Chicago amusement park and went into the “Tunnel of Love”. It’s safe to say they have been stuck in that tunnel of love mindset ever since.
Marion remembers telling her mother about her plans to marry Fielding. She was sure.
On Friday, they shared their day with residents of the Chesterwood Village Retirement Community in West Chester. Their youngest son couldn't miss it.
Fielding still carries the picture he looked at every day while serving in World War II and after 78 years together, singing to your bride never gets old.
Marion and Fielding Lee have three children, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
