WANTED: Man hits coworker over the head with a pipe, steals $900
For this week’s Wanted Wednesday, we bring you a man who is wanted for armed robbery.
Police couldn’t identify suspects the night of the robbery, but video surveillance and investigative work lead them to three men. Two have been captured, but one is still on the streets. Now, police are asking for your help to find him.
“Artovious McKinney is wanted with his role in a robbery that occurred in January of this year,” said officer Ben Tobias of the Gainesville Police Department. “McKinney and another suspect pulled the victim off his bicycle and robbed him of $900.”
The victim was just getting off work at Yamato after being paid $900 in cash.
The victim says the suspects also worked at Yamato, and knew he'd be getting paid in cash for the night.
He started riding his bike behind the buildings when police say McKinney and the other suspect hit the victim over his head with a pipe.
They took his backpack filled with the money and ran to their getaway car.
"We've used all of the tools and techniques available to us at this point and we know someone out there has information on his whereabouts," Tobias said.
McKinney is a 20-year-old black male. He is 5’5 and 135 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
“At this point we are unsure if he is just laying low to avoid capture or if he has fled the area,” Tobias said. “That’s really why we are reaching out to the public hoping they can point us in the right direction.”
Police ask if you know where McKinney is, call Crime Stoppers at (352)372-STOP.
