High school hoops: Girls district title scores, GHS tramples Eastside

Area high school scores on Friday, February 3:

Varsity boys:

Gainesville defeated Eastside, 53-30, stretching its win-streak to 15 games. Isaiah Wilson led the Hurricanes with 13 points, and De'Aundra Ivery led the Rams with 12 points. Eastside will be the top seed in the District 6-6A tournament and will play Belleview Tuesday. GHS improves to 23-2 and will host the District 4-7A tournaments, which begins Wednesday.

Bell toppled non-conference rival Lafayette, 74-41, to end the regular season with a 21-4 record. Tony Yoder scored 16 points for the Bulldogs.

Varsity girls:

Lafayette beat Hamilton County, 47-41. The Hornets (16-8) claim the District 5-1A title.

Eastside led Belleview 30-19 after three quarters, but ultimately suffered a 35-34 loss in the District 6-6A final. It's Belleview's first-ever district title. As runner-ups, the Lady Rams will travel to play the District 5 champion (Ponte Vedra or Clay) next week.

Trenton pummeled Chiefland, 61-29, to claim the District 7-1A crown. Bryn Thomas led the Tigers with 21 points. Thalia Jackson recorded a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds. Trenton improves to 24-3 on the year.

Williston defeated Newberry, 61-57, to take the District 6-1A title. The Panthers will travel to Lafayette next week for post-season play.
