George R.R. Martin producing 'Ice Dragon' animated film
(WENN) - Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin is producing a film based on his 1980 children's book "The Ice Dragon" .
The animated movie will be his first big screen project and will centre on a young girl named Adara, who teams up with an Ice Dragon to save her world.
According to reports, "The Ice Dragon" is not set in the same realm as his "A Song of Ice and Fire" saga, which is the basis for the highly popular "Game of Thrones" series.
It is unclear when the film will go into production, but the writer is currently gearing up for the cult fantasy show's TV finale, which will air next year.
Show creators have had to build their storylines from season six onwards around book ideas Martin had outlined for them, as he has been working on the sixth instalment of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" literary series since 2011.
He had been hoping to have "The Winds of Winter" complete in time for 2016, to coincide with the broadcast of the sixth season of the TV adaptation, but he failed to hit his deadline.
It's unknown if Martin will be finishing the book versions any time soon as he also reportedly signed on to adapt author Nnedi Okorafor's acclaimed fantasy novel, "Who Fears Death" for TV, last year.
