13-year-old runaway armed with gun accused of wrecking stolen car in Marion County
A 13-year-old runaway from Jacksonville is in the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center after authorities say he wrecked a stolen car and threatened someone with a gun while breaking into cars Monday.
Marion County Sheriff's deputies charged Zyaire Evans with burglary, grand theft, carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of aggravated assault.
Deputies say Evans stole the car in Jacksonville and was driving to Tampa when he wreck the car on NW 77th Street and U.S. Highway 441. Deputies say he ran to the Irish Acres subdivision and began breaking into unlocked cars to steal clothes, when a neighbor confronted him. When the neighbor tried to take a picture of Evans, deputies say he walked up to them and attempted to pull from his waistband a gun he had just stolen from a truck.
A deputy and K-9 responded to the neighborhood and arrested Evans without incident. They say Evans confessed to all of the crimes he's charged with.
