GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) — The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a 23-year-old man who was struck and killed by a car on I-75 near Gainesville early Tuesday.
Troopers say 23-year-old Juwon Xavier Thigpen of Jacksonville crashed his car into a guard rail in the northbound lanes near mile marker 386 around 4 a.m. They say he got out of his car after it came to rest in the center lane.
Troopers say a 53-year-old Kentucky woman was driving north on I-75 in the center lane when she saw the vehicle and swerved to the right to avoid the crashed car. Troopers say the front of the car struck Thigpen, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
