24-year-old man dies in train accident at Kirby Family Farm in Williston
A 24-year-old man died Tuesday night while trying to board a train used by a Williston farm to help children.
Levy County Sheriff's deputies responded to Kirby Farms at 19650 NE 30th St. around 6:30 p.m.
Lt. Scott Tummond says 24-year-old Anthony Lowe Osburn-Day of Ocala was pronounced dead at the scene. Tummond said Osburn-Day attempted to board the train, lost his footing and fell beneath one of the cars.
The sheriff's office and the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating the incident. Tummond said OSHA arrived on scene to conduct its own investigation.
Kirby Farms is a non-profit organization and museum that seeks to help at-risk, foster and special needs children. The farm obtained the train this summer to help children learn about transportation and agriculture.
The 1960s train was once part of the Six Gun Territory Theme Park that closed in the 1980s.
