Alachua County deputies recover 70 grams of meth from car, arrest two men
Alachua County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men accused of possessing 70 grams of meth.
On Sunday, a manager at Towneplace Suites by Marriott called deputies to report that Alex Stripling was walking in the parking lot with a firearm openly displayed on his hip.
When deputies arrived they found Stripling in a car with Matthew Daughterty.
After searching the vehicle deputies found 70 grams of meth, a stolen firearm and ammunition.
Stripling was armed while trafficking methamphetamine, and was in possession of a stolen firearm, and violated two conditions of his pre-trial release.
A search of Daughterty"s person revealed 14.9 grams of methamphetamine individually packaged.
During the investigation, deputies evacuated one floor of the hotel out of concern that it may contain a meth lab.
" Based on the significant amount of meth we were concerned they may be manufacturing it inside the hotel. Ultimately that didn't prove to be the case and everyone was allowed to continue to enjoy their stay," Sgt. Brett Rhodenizer said.
Both men are charged with trafficking meth and are being held in the Alachua County jail.
