Alachua Police charge 15-year-old with murder in Maude Lewis Park shooting
ALACHUA, Fla. (WGFL) —
Alachua Police have charged a 15-year-old with murder in the Jan. 14th fatal shooting at Maude Lewis Park, but are still investigating who shot five people the next day.
Police say Kemarri Latrell Hampton killed 27-year-old Dana Walker, Jr. on the basketball court around 1:45 on Jan. 14th.
Chief Chad Scott said Hampton was initially arrested on Jan. 19th for perjury and is still in the juvenile detention center. He said the charge was upgraded to murder today.
Scott said no arrests have been made yet in a shooting the following day that left five people wounded, including two children ages 3 and 2. Scott said a third child was also there during the shooting but was not wounded.
"The retaliation shooting that occurred in the following day ... is still under investigation. However, great progress has been made and we expect information to be released in the very near future," Scott said. "The investigation is not over by any means."
Scott said they're partnering with Crime Stoppers to offer $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the shooting. You can call Crime Stoppers at (352) 372-Stop.
