"At-risk" students honored with limo for good grades

24 young men, ages 8-18 left the Reichert House in a limo Wednesday to be honored by the Alachua County School District for their hard work receiving all A’s and B’s this term.

“We push academics real hard and when our young men meet that challenge and meet their goals we want to make sure we put them on a pedestal and highlight their accomplishments,” said John Alexander, director of the Reichert House.

The Reichert House provides services for “at-risk” males in the community including academic assistance and character development.

Although the young men enjoy being spoiled on nights like this, there is a bigger purpose to these events.

“Our goal is to make sure each of the young men when they leave our program have post graduate plans to become a productive member of our society,” Alexander said.

The young men topped off the night with a dinner provided by Leonardo’s 706.
