Deputies identify woman killed in Interlachen, charge suspect with first-degree murder
Deputies have identified the victim of an early morning homicide in Interlachen.
On Sunday, deputies responded shortly before 4 a.m. to a Sand Lake Road residence and found the body Alicia Marie Kerce, 37, with multiple stab wounds.
Detectives identified Joseph McKee as a person of interest and believe he took Kerce’s vehicle.
The vehicle, a 1990 Nissan truck was found by in Waldo on Hwy 301 by Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The vehicle was burnt and detectives believe the suspect set the truck on fire.
Nearby, Alachua County deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle and it was believed McKee had stolen that vehicle to flee to Jacksonville.
During his attempt to leave town, McKee tried to ride with a delivery truck driver. An argument escalated to an altercation and during the fight, the suspect broke his leg.
When Jacksonville officers arrived, McKee was unable to escape due to his leg injury. He was taken to the hospital and is in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
McKee is charged with first-degree murder.
