Alachua County deputies pleading with community to help find man's killer
It was 3 a.m. Saturday when neighbors say they heard a man yelling for someone to call 911.
But when deputies arrived, it was too late.
Joseph Green, 62, also known as “J.R.” was found shot and unresponsive on the 900th block of 62nd Terrace.
“He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries,” says Lt. Brett Rhodenizer, Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
This is the third homicide in about a month where a victim was found dead on the side of the road in Alachua County.
On October 8th, deputies found 23-year-old Orell Gordon dead on Southeast 15th Street.
And on October 24th, Gainesville Police found a man named Michael Brooks from Nouth Carolina, dead on Northeast 15th Street.
“Unfortunately this is not the first homicide of this nature that we have experienced in our community this year,” says Lt. Rhodenizer. “Our murder victims have been found by themselves with no witnesses, with no one there who could immediaitely assist with the investigation.”
Neighbors say Green knew everyone in the community, with over 300 shares and condolences on the Sheriff's Office Facebook Page, deputies are pleading for tips to help find his killer.
“We are asking for anyone who knew him, that knew of him, or that knew the folks that could be around him that have additional information to please give us a call,” says Lt. Rhodenizer.
Whats left is now a small memorial in the neighborhood with candles, as family and friends hope justice will be brought to their community.
