Florida missing child alert issued for 3-week-old baby boy from Gainesville
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has put out a missing child alert for a 3-week-old baby boy from Gainesville.
The agency says Jayce Jenkins was last seen Sunday in the 4300 block of SW 13th Street in Gainesville. Jayce is described as white with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Authorities say he may be in the company of 37-year-old Alison Jenkins. She is described as a white with brown hair, blue eyes and about 5-foot-3.
When baby Jayce was born three weeks ago, deputies say he and his mother tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.
They say baby Jayce was then taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families.
“There was an agreement if the mother joined the Mother Intensive Support Treatment Program through the Meridian, she would be allowed to still have contact with the baby, the baby would live there and the progress would be monitored,” said Art Forgey of the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies say Jenkins broke that agreement. They say she and the baby left the property in a getaway car around 11:30 Sunday night.
“At this point in time we have no idea where she is, what she’s doing, what kind of condition the baby is in or if the baby is in harm in any way,” Forgey said.
Deputies say when Jenkins left the Meridian property, baby Jayce was in the custody of DCF. The sheriff’s office says it is in the process of filing charges.
“Even though she is the mother, she does not have custody of the child," Forgey said. "The state actually has that. So she is interfering with the custody of this child.”
Deputies are also trying to identify who picked up Jenkins and the baby. They say that person may potentially face charges as well.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Alachua County Sheriff's Office at (352) 955-1818 or 911.
