Fraud suspect surrenders to deputies after CBS 4 Wanted Wednesdays profile airs
A man wanted on fraud charges turned himself in to Levy County Sheriff's deputies after he was recently profiled on CBS 4's Wanted Wednesdays.
Michael Thaysen, 42, is charged with scheme to defraud and issuing worthless checks after deputies say he kept clients' cash deposits while working as manager at a mobile home lot in Chiefland. Lt. Scott Tummond said Thaysen was accused of stealing $37,515 from 14 victims.
Deputies have been searching for Thaysen since 2015. Tummond said Thaysen turned himself in after CBS 4 aired its Wanted Wednesdays profile about him in October.
"He didn't know he had a warrant out for him and he wasn't in our area so we didn't immediately locate him," Tummond said. "Based on the profile made by CBS 4, he was made aware of it and Mr. Thaysen turned himself in to our jail. Thank you to our citizens who watch CBS 4 and give us their tips."
CBS 4 Gainesville started airing weekly Wanted Wednesdays profiles after discovering there are more than 10,000 outstanding warrants in the viewing area.
