Gainesville man accused of stealing tools from Lowe's because someone stole his

Police say a Gainesville man told them he twice walked out of Lowe's with tools he didn't pay for because someone stole his.

Gainesville Police arrested and charged 49-year-old John Anderson Tyler with grand theft Monday. An arrest report released Tuesday says Tyler walked out of the Lowe's Home Improvement store on NW 13th Street with a tool set and a knife Monday afternoon without paying for it. It says Tyler left the property and returned later to fill a shopping cart with more than $825 worth of items. Police say he was arrested when he attempted to leave the second time.

Police say after his arrest Tyler told them someone had stolen all of his tools and he needed to replace them. He's being held on $10,000 bond.
