Alachua man accused of raping woman inside Gainesville home
Gainesville Police have arrested an Alachua man accused of raping a woman he's been friends with for eight months.
Police on Tuesday charged 53-year-old Patrick Wilber with sexual battery. An arrest report released Wednesday says Wilber and the victim had been friends since October. The report says she was at a local department store, waiting on her vehicle to be serviced, when Wilber called her on her phone to find out where she was. The report says he showed up at the department store and talked her into getting lunch.
Here's what happened next, according to the report:
On the way to the restaurant, Wilber told the victim he needed to stop by a house because he needed to do some quick contract work. He gave her a quick tour of the house, leading her to a bedroom where he grabbed her hand from behind and put it on his crotch over his clothing. The victim repeatedly told him, "No, I don't want to do that."
The report says Wilber demanded she sit on the bed, which she did out of fear, and then raped her despite her repeatedly telling him she didn't want to do it.
Police say the victim identified Wilber using his driver's license photo. Police say they also have video surveillance showing the victim and suspect together an hour before the assault.
Investigators say Wilber declined to answer any questions about the case.
