Gainesville man convicted of sex trafficking woman he abducted from church

Arthur Lee, Jr.

A man was convicted Wednesday of sex trafficking a woman he abducted from the parking lot of a Gainesville church.

U.S. Attorney Christopher P. Cannova says in a release the woman was attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting when 34-year-old Arthur Larange Lee Jr. took her phone and ordered her to drive to a local hotel.

Authorities say Lee took photos of her and then raped, burned and performed other violent acts saying he would "break her in." Lee gave the victim cocaine and said she would pay off her "debt." Lee kept the money after he forced the victim to perform sexual acts with numerous "johns" at hotels and homes.

Authorities say she texted a "john" who agreed to help her escape by picking her up outside of a hotel. She took Lee's cell phone and called police, who found Lee still inside the hotel.

Lee will be sentenced on April 23. He faces 15 years to life in prison.
