Gainesville Police searching for suspect who sexually assaulted woman inside apartment gym

Gainesville Police collect evidence after a woman was sexually assaulted inside the gym at Tivoli Apartments Wednesday night.

Gainesville Police are looking for a man who punched and sexually assaulted a woman inside her apartment gym Wednesday evening.

Police say they responded to Tivoli Apartments on 2841 SW 13th St. around 6:40 p.m. The victim told officers she was working out in the apartment complex gym when a man knocked on the door.

Tobias said the woman let him in. Once inside, he punched her and grabbed her by the throat while trying to pull her pants off of her. He exposed himself and made her perform a sex act, Tobias said. He said the attack happened about 6:20 p.m.

The suspect is described as a black male, 18 to 21 years old, 210 pounds and clean shaven. He was wearing a red, white and blue striped polo shirt and khaki shorts.

Tobias said police searched the area but didn't find the man. They're out in the area looking for potential witnesses and more evidence. Tobias said they have extra patrols in the area.
