Gainesville Police: Teen arrested in gang-related shooting, searching for suspects in 2nd
Gainesville Police say they've arrested a 17-year-old girl in connection in one gang-related shooting that left four injured and are now searching for suspects in a second, related shooting Monday night.
Officers charged 17-year-old Brooke Jenkins with principle to attempted homicide in connection with a shooting Friday night near the 8th Avenue Food Store on Northeast 8th Avenue. Police say four teens were shot during a drive-by shooting around 10:40 a.m. One of the teens was in serious condition but none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
Capt. Jorge Campos said that shooting was the result of a fight at a high school football game. He said the people involved in the fight planned to meet on 8th Avenue. He said Jenkins was the driver of one of the cars. He said they're still trying to identify a second vehicle involved in the shooting. It's described as a silver or gray, 4-door Volkswagen with black rims. Police released a photo of the vehicle.
Campos said they believe a second shooting Monday night at the Walmart parking lot at 1800 NE 12th Ave. is connected to the Friday night shooting.
Campos said four people in the parking lot escaped injury after four suspects, described as four black teens, opened fire.
Anyone with information about either shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (352) 372-STOP.
