GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WGFL) -- A local high schooler is competing on PBS's "Celebration of Music" talent search.
Celebration of Music is a brand-new show displaying the young musical talent across America hosted by teenage superstar, Ethan Bortnick.
“I like saw one of my friends do it online, and i was like i could probably do that so I just auditioned," said Grace Lamerson.
16-year-old Grace Lamerson is a Gainesville native who landed a spot on the show.
Lamerson said music is a way for her to share her emotions.
“Music can help me express myself it’s hard, i’m terrible at talking but I can write music about things," Lamerson said.
Lamerson even got a shout out from Billy Corgan, the lead singer of the Smashing Pumpkins for her rendition of their song “By Starlight.”
“My mom put a clip of my music on Instagram and he liked it and messaged her and asked if he could put a clip of my performance on his Instagram,” Lamerson said.
Lamerson said she enjoys photography, singing, and songwriting.
“It’s like a coping mechanism, if i’m upset i can write and play music," Lamerson said.
“I just want to make something that means something to someone," Lamerson said.
She is competing with 17 other artists and the winner of the regional competition will receive a trip to Los Angeles to compete on a national level.
“I’m releasing an EP before the year is over, so that will be cool," Lamerson said.
The winner is decided by votes and online voting is open until December 12th.
