GRU hosts free camp for middle school students in Gainesville
GRU reached out to middle school students to participate in Camp EmPower, a free camp during Spring Break.
They're out on the field, up in the air and work hands on with GRU industry experts.
Program Director Casey Smith said the week-long program introduces students to the fields of conservation, energy supply, energy delivery, natural gas, and waste water.
"It's a real team effort by our whole GRU staff to present what they do, the education they need the training they need... and just let the kids know there are good opportunities in Gainesville," Smith said.
Students are also taught business etiquette: how to interview for a job, dress for success and give a proper hand shake.
"They interview for a job at the end of the week," Smith said. "I think its a great thing because there's real opportunities within the utility business and these kids are our future."
Friday 3/30 is camp graduation day where parents, friends and GRU staff are invited to celebrate what these kids have learned.
