GRU referendum fails; Children's trust and school repairs pass


Children's Trust got a yes vote meaning the median household will contribute about $3 dollars a month.

They money goes to a 10 member board, five of which are appointed by city commissioners, who will be accountable for the money.

The Half Cent Sales Tax also got a yes vote meaning the surtax will be used to improve school facilities.

Officials say the Half Cent Tax would bring in $22 million dollars a year for the next 12 years.

Third is the GRU referendum, which got a no vote.

This means the city commissioners will continue to make decisions over GRU and your electric bills.

Lastly is the City of Gainesvillle Charter which got a yes vote.

This will require elections for mayors and commissioners to be every other year in even-numbered years.

It would also change terms from three to four years.
