Lake Weir High School student accused of threatening to blow up school
Marion County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a 17-year-old student accused of making threats toward other students at Lake Weir High School Thursday.
Deputies charged Merquetio Alan Stevenson with making a bomb threat and two misdemeanor charges.
Authorities say students told authorities Stevenson made several threats while riding the school bus Thursday. The students told authorities Stevenson said he was going to shoot up and blow up the school and they were all going to die. They say he ranted about blowing up the bus and how body parts would be everywhere.
Authorities say more than half of the student population at Lake Weir did not show up to school Friday because of the threats.
Deputies couldn't immediately find Stevenson but the beefed up their presence at the school Friday. Deputies say they found him this afternoon in the Whispering Sands neighborhood and took him into custody without incident.
Deputies say Stevenson has five prior felony convictions from December 2016. He's being held without bond at the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center.
Stevenson is one of three North Central Florida students arrested Friday in connection with school threats.
